Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Air Quality and Sustainability Engineer in the Los Angeles or Orange County, California, area to join our growing air quality and sustainability consulting services in the West Coast region. In this role, you will have opportunities to collaborate with our Air Practice, Energy Transition and Sustainability teams, as well as other core practices within the firm such as remediation, waste management and compliance. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of five years of project management experience, with a significant emphasis on developing and implementing strategies for environmental sustainability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Conducting regulatory analyses related to air quality matters as driven by the Clean Air Act as well as state and local regulations and evolving greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations and reporting programs;
  • Preparing air and GHG emissions inventories and emissions calculations;
  • Support the delivery of projects focused on energy transition, decarbonization, net-zero and science-based targets, energy, and carbon reporting, and analytics;
  • Preparing analysis to support carbon and climate change programs, environmental impact assessments, regulatory analysis and permitting, and compliance solutions;
  • Support decarbonization pathway analyses including developing carbon reduction feasibility and cost analysis and life cycle analysis modeling for client projects, products, and operations;
  • Developing air quality permit applications under new source review, prevention of significant deterioration, Title V, and state-level regulations;
  • Conducting air quality impact analysis involving dispersion modeling and health risk assessment;
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments; and
  • Working directly with clients, delivering outstanding results, forming valued relationships, and solving some of their more challenging issues.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, sustainability, environmental studies, or related environmental engineering or a similar engineering discipline. (required)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.) (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of consulting or industry experience in air quality permitting, compliance, and sustainability and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Understanding of chemical engineering concepts such as chemical process calculations and mass transfer. (required)
  • Experience with GHG accounting including Scope 1, 2, and 3 calculations, and science-based target setting. (required)
  • Understanding of the climate change policy and regulatory landscape as well as the wider Environmental Social Governance (ESG) reporting and disclosure landscape. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with ESG-related standards and frameworks including the GHG Protocol, SASB, GRI, and Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures. (preferred)
  • Experience related to one or more of the following areas: climate risk assessment, particularly quantitative approaches to measuring risk and scenario analysis; technical knowledge of net-zero; decarbonization planning; financial modeling; circular economy; and waste management strategies. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with USEPA and state environmental regulations and understanding of the air permitting process. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Regional representation through involvement in professional associations or trade organizations. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $98,140/year / Maximum Salary: $127,580/year (Los Angeles)
  • Minimum Salary: $93,875/year / Maximum Salary: $122,040/year (Costa Mesa)
