Job Summary

Central Washington University is recruiting a Remote IT Manager (Enterprise System Services) to join our Information Services team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they manage the systems administrator team for the University in the areas of Identify and Access Management, servers, M365 administration (including email), and backups. The role is a remote position, which means you can help us Change Students' Lives from anywhere in the US. We're offering a salary, depending on experience, from $104,655 - $133,435 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Information Services and Security Division manages various aspects of technology, information management, and security within Central Washington University.

Within Information Services and Security, the Enterprise Systems Services group operates as part of the Infrastructure Services Team which is responsible for operation and maintenance of key foundational systems including networks, storage, compute, telecommunications, account management, and cloud services. Our services provide the groundwork necessary to support other IT services including security, applications, media, and web.

The Role:

This position provides management, project coordination and technical leadership as for the Enterprise Systems Services team with responsibility for enterprise platforms including Microsoft AD/EntraID, cloud infrastructure, virtualization, storage, databases, auxiliaries, and email environments serving the university community. Makes decisions and recommendations regarding enterprise platform technologies. Manages upgrades, projects and technology R&D efforts with a focus on operational stability, timeliness, attention to detail and customer focus. Collects and reports on key performance metrics for the team and the operational health of systems. Job Duties

Enterprise System Services Leadership:
- Review on a continual basis the team's procedures, staffing and equipment for maximum efficiency while controlling costs.
- Provide input into the development of the annual budget, providing justification when needed.
- Conduct team meetings; provide guidance and direction in accordance with overall strategy.
- Strive for enhanced team productivity and the implementation of policies that more effectively utilize department resources.
- Participate in IS governance activities with key business units and technology users to facilitate business requirements and communicate needs.
- Maintain technical competencies and serve as backup to staff for select tasks and workflows.
- Stay abreast of emerging information technologies. Proactively assess industry direction and analyze new capabilities that may be applied to the university.
- Continue to develop professional skills in the IT and leadership fields. Annually complete a minimum of 40 hours training or education on current or emerging technology with an additional 16 hours in leadership training, through trade magazines, manuals, seminars and courses.

Supervision:
- Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees.
- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring for up to eight professional staff positions. Conducts formal performance evaluations.
- Ensures employees have necessary resources.
- Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues.
- Promotes professional development opportunities.
- Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement.
- Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community.
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner.
- Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance.
- Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests.

Project Management:
- Evaluate business needs, objectives and goals, research products and develop procedures to best meet those needs through team and systems management.
- Develop plans for implementation of new projects, coordinating process with project managers. Provide well-defined plans including procedures, deadlines, and accountability.
- Evaluate and monitor project performance, role responsibilities, scope, timelines, and goals. Identify lessons learned, areas for improvement and strategies for future projects.

Vendor Management:
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors to foster outreach and collaboration. Identify opportunities for development of solutions to aid and support client needs by leveraging implemented technologies.
- Ensures vendors have sufficient expertise to provide the services required, can execute contracts on required schedules, and provide services and devices at competitive prices. Also ensures compliance with state procurement regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business operations/management of information systems, computer science or related field.
  • Seven (7) years' experience supervising information technology professionals.
  • Extensive experience in systems administration, infrastructure, technical account administration, or networking.
  • Extensive experience managing mission-critical IT applications, systems, or databases.
  • Experience managing complex deployment projects within budget and on specific timelines.
  • Experience with Microsoft and related technology families, such as Exchange, Active Directory, SQL Server, Azure, SharePoint and Office 365.
  • Experience with VMware or similar virtualization technologies, such as ESXi, vSphere, vCenter, DRS, HA, and virtualization architecture.
  • Experience with large enterprise-class application suites and/or Enterprise Resource Systems (ERPs).
  • Experience with project management processes and principles.
  • Experience working with and managing teams through collaboration tools and ticketing systems.
  • Mature understanding of account management and life-cycle considerations.
  • Mature understanding of the relationship between IT operations and security.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.
  • OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to accomplish the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) architecture in a large enterprise environment supporting disparate systems and technologies.
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management systems and principles.
  • Experience with datacenter operations and architecture.
  • Experience with cloud service technologies (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS) and providers.
  • Experience with database technologies.
  • Experience with Higher Education

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position has a minimum annual salary of $104,655 and maximum annual salary of $162,215. The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $104,655 - $133,435. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed remotely. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. High percentage of the time involves communication through one-on-one and group meetings. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel will be required.
