About the Role

The Account Executive ll position will act as the primary liaison with Matson Navigation Company of Alaska, LLC, and the Alaska/Hawaii/Guam Tradelane customers. This individual will target, solicit, and maintain business consistent with Division and Company goals. The goals include, but are not limited to, revenue, volume, service, origin/destination, equipment, and cargo. This individual will gather market information and network to ensure new opportunities are secured with minimal lag time. Must work well in a team environment and with multiple departments within Matson. Support the Regional Sales Director and Senior Account Managers administratively with both Inside and Outside Sales focus.

What you'll do:

  • Meet or exceed annual goals established in collaboration with the Regional Sales Director, Pacific Northwest, based on the current Operating Plan.
  • Identify and target accounts consistent with management direction, individual and departmental goals.
  • Solicit business that results in obtaining new accounts at the best possible revenue for Matson.
  • Respond to and resolve customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Report customer issues to operational groups within Matson and provide follow-up to ensure a satisfactory resolution.
  • Act as liaison between the customers and other operational groups within Matson.
  • Develop an understanding of the customer's business, build relationships, and identify opportunities for growth in all Matson services that are available.
  • Canvassing of the market to identify new contacts and business opportunities.
  • Regular reporting on developments within the industry and individual accounts.
  • Create reports of customer shipping activities, which may include quarterly, monthly, and weekly customer status reports and sales call planning reports.
  • Follow-up on price quotes and bookings from customer service and communicate the status to the customer as needed.
  • Participate in weekly sales calls.
  • Participate in community events and attend charitable functions.
  • Facilitate timely collection of various performance reports i.e., Target Account, GAP, Market ID.
  • Support Regional Sales Director and Senior Account Managers with reporting needs.
  • Perform inside and outside sales calls. Liaison with Customer Service on new customer inquiries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You have these skills:

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of sales experience, preferably in transportation or logistics, with a heavy emphasis on customer relations management.
  • Knowledge of various Alaskan market segments, both northbound and southbound is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of international seafood market - or willingness to learn this market.
  • Ability to learn Matson's services and competitive strategies.
  • Experience managing specialized accounts, such as major accounts or special commodities is preferred.
  • High-level presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated follow-through and detail oriented.
  • Must have a valid Washington state driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for at least one hour at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, bend, walk, climb stairs, talk, hear.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

The annual salary range for this position in Washington is $90,000 - $110,000. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
