This role is part of Lunar Permanence mission operations, which develops the mission operations systems, training and procedures that support Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As the MK1 Flight Operations Integration Lead, you will directly support the Director of Mission Operations by leading the technical integration of all mission operations elements of our MK1 lunar lander spacecraft. You will work with the mission operations teams such as training, operations product development, ground software, mission systems engineering, and others to set priorities, establish schedules, create efficient business processes and set the technical baseline for MK1 operations. You will represent the mission operations team at programmatic boards and reviews and recommend changes to vehicle designs or concepts of operations to improve operational efficiency and safety. You will track operational risks and regularly report on schedule, budget and technical issues along with recommendations for resolution.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Set priorities and establish schedules for the development and execution of mission operations for the MK1 class of lunar lander vehicles

  • Review and approve engineering and operational product changes for both the lander vehicle and ground systems

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing flight vehicle systems, ground software, flight control operators and customers

  • Assist with establishing standards for repeatable and cost-effective mission operations execution, working to continuously improve team performance and create a culture of operational excellence

  • Maintain the mission operations section of the programmatic Integrated Master Schedule

  • Represent mission operations at programmatic reviews and staff meetings

  • Develop mission operations plans and standards for MK1 class missions

  • Train and certify to support mission operations from our mission control center(s)

  • Support anomaly response teams as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum: BS Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.

  • 10+ years experience conducting spacecraft operations

  • 2+ years of experience leading flight operations teams

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment and make high-consequence, rapid decisions with potentially incomplete information

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing Agile methodologies

  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence and other project management software tools

  • Cost account management experience

  • Demonstrated track record of working with cross-functional teams to make technically sound decisions and establish productive working relationships

  • Experience with risk management

  • Prior experience developing one or more of the following: spacecraft/satellite ground systems, spacecraft operational procedures, spacecraft training programs, mission planning systems

  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics

  • Familiarity with spacecraft communication standards using satellite relay and/or ground stations

Compensation range for onsite WA applicants is $185,094-$259,131
