Job Description

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

In this position you will work directly with a small team, Engines Flight Support. EFS is a service center that supports our customer as they integrate, fly, and reuse Blue Origin's engines. It will be your responsibility to support senior engineers and advise our customers, both internal and external, as they integrate our engines into the flight vehicle, verify the installation, and certify the installation for flight. Leading up to day-of-launch you will be part of a team that reports engine status at Mission and Flight Readiness Reviews and help to write, review, and execute launch procedures. You will provide engineering support in launch/mission control during flight, analyze flight data, participate in engine subsystem data reviews, and provide feedback on flight data results to the customer base, designers, and component owners for implementation into future engine upgrades.

In the scope of this role you will be expected to serve as the technical lead for the BE-7 Engines Flight Support team. As its founding member you will be expected to have knowledge of foundational launch support processes in order to stand them up in support of the first mission. From engine acceptance test, through engine integration, checkouts, and launch. Travel is needed in this role to support the above mentioned efforts. This role is intended to serve as the primary coordinator and technical expert from an engines perspective.

As part of this role, you will also support development of the documentation that is used for engine integration into the flight vehicles, development of flight level ConOps, and be a general voice for the Engines group at the launch site.

If required, you will also support anomaly investigations, and assist functional managers in interviewing and hiring new talent. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication, commitment, and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Aside from direct launch and flight support, you will serve as Engines point of contact for the vehicle customer, lead problem solving efforts, and assist in dispositioning non-conformances including on-site supervision of off-nominal field maintenance when required. As subject matter expert in launch vehicle and flight operations you will help establish standards to streamline the engine integration and checkout process to minimize schedule impacts and identify, communicate, and mitigate risks.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

  • Knowledge of engine components such as pumps, valves, regulators, actuators and other high pressure and cryogenic fluid system components
  • Ability to identify and handle risks in a complex dynamic system
  • Knowledge of system engineering practices
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, fast paced, and multifaceted environment
