Lunar: This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

This hands-on role is with the Lunar Water Processing and Distribution Team, which is a key part of human support functions on spacecraft. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers the candidate applies standard engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test water filtration systems, and mechanically functioning equipment. Performs development, release, and support of engineering artifacts across the development cycle to support hardware fabrication, assembly, verification, test and operations. Implements operating procedures, resolves system malfunctions, and provide technical information. Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware. The ECLS System is composed of the essential hardware to allow humans to safely inhabit space. ECLSS circulates air around the vehicle picking up carbon dioxide, humidity and trace contaminants to be scrubbed and provides oxygen for breathing. The internal cabin pressure is maintained and monitored. Clean drinking water is provided to the crew and for EVAs. The ECLS system also monitors air quality as well as emergencies such as rapid depressurization and fire and counteracts them.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own the crew module water treatment system and interfaces through the entire life cycle: Conception, Design, Build, Test, Install and Operations (about 70% of time)
  • Write technical requirements for procurements and/or model parts in Creo (about 30% of time)
  • Support the R&D facility, test stand, and support equipment construction, operation, and maintenance
  • Assist in test system development, trade studies, and equipment selection
  • Support project leads in the development and execution of test campaigns
  • Perform system calculations
  • Solve technical and program problems with the help of your team
  • Provide schedule and budget inputs for owned hardware
  • Show system and component compliance to Blue and NASA technical requirements
  • Be the technical point of contact for your hardware
  • Adhere to Blue Leadership Principles

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in related engineering field such as Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience in one or more areas of the product life cycle
  • Experience working on small technical teams
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with water treatment systems/technologies
  • Experience in analytical chemistry
  • Previously leading procurement efforts
  • Experience with filtration beds
  • Working knowledge of Creo
  • Experience with small project management
  • Worked on a crewed spaceflight program

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $96,480-$135,072
