Compensation Data

Annual Salary Range: $138,728.00 - $110,982.00

Job Summary

GKN Aerospace is seeking a dedicated Process Development Engineer/Scientist to lead development of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coatings for transparencies for aircraft and spacecraft applications.

Job Responsibilities
  • Research industry leading coating technologies and apply them within development programs for new and existing platforms.
  • Lead PVD coating efforts for new product development.
  • Provide direct insight for large capital expenditure projects from inception through implementation.
  • Utilize technical expertise to determine potential root causes and failure modes for existing product forms.
  • Lead internal and external technical discussion and provide unique technical insight.Solve processing problems and work with all stakeholders to prevent their recurrence.
  • Manage changes in PVD coating related processes and develop improvement plans for current and future programs.
  • Assist in deriving long-term technology plan for all transparency and coating related technologies.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, or similar field of study.
  • Five (5) years of experience developing and manufacturing PVD coatings on transparencies for mobility vehicles (i.e. aircraft, spacecraft, automotive or trains) or ophthalmic lenses. Will also accept Two (2) years of demonstrated graduate level knowledge in PVD coatings and eagerness to develop into the role under direct guidance of current subject matter experts, in lieu of 5 years of manufacturing industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, execute, and report project work plans.
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance.
  • Travel approximately 5%, including some international,as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Subject matter expert in Physical Vapor Deposition development and processes.
  • Knowledge of industry relevant magnetron sputtering processes and equipment for thin film applications.
  • Knowledge of thin film coating application on flat and compound shape plastic and glass substrates.
  • Knowledge on industry relevant coating development applications (i.e. heater & screening films), techniques and software.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing standards, statistical process control techniques, test equipment, gauging and instrumentation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
