This will be a full-time limited position in the Department of Neurosurgery.The Patient Care Coordinator will act in a diversified position within the Department of Neurosurgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine. Duties are anticipated to change on a daily basis contingent on which Neurosurgeons office is in the highest need of assistance. The Patient Care Coordinator will providecoordination of care, continuity, follow-up, and support for the patients and their families. Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to: answering, triaging and responding to patient phone calls, scheduling clinic appointments, pre and post scrubbing of clinic appointments, assisting patients with scheduling diagnostic tests, preparing charts and documents for clinic visits, enter referrals and orders, coordinate scheduling and management of patient surgeries and all follow-up care, assisting with obtaining insurance pre-certifications and referral authorizations, referral work queues, process requests for medical records, process medication refill requests, organize and maintain a computer calendar system, and assist with processing disability and return-to-work forms and various letters at patient and provider's request. Other projects and administrative tasks will be assigned on an as needed basis.

*This is a full-time, one year limited appointment that may convert to career.

Pay Range: $28.23 - $40.44 Hourly

Qualifications

All Required:

  • Comfortable with changing work flows
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of physician office policies and procedures
  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction
  • Knowledge of neurosurgical medical terminology to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses and other members of the health care community
  • Current knowledge of neurosurgical diagnosis, treatments, and terminology
  • Working knowledge of patient related policies and procedures, as well as a thorough understanding of the University system
  • Familiarity with physician office billing procedures
  • Working knowledge of PC including the following software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Windows.
  • Skill speaking on a one to one basis with persons of various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds to obtain information and explain procedures.
  • Able to handle variable supervisors and be receptive to an unpredictable work schedule.
  • Ability to triage incoming calls with efficiency.
  • Must have the flexibility to be able to handle variable Neurosurgeons calendars.
  • Requires responsibility of checking in nightly for next day's assignment
