Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant in Investment Accounting and Reporting!

About the role

Symetra's Investment Accounting department is looking to add a new Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant, focusing on investment accounting and GAAP and Statutory reporting. This individual will participate in the month, quarter, and year-end close and reporting cycles. You will be working with a diverse investment portfolio including bonds, stocks, mortgage loans, derivatives, hedge funds, limited partnerships, and tax credits.You will work with individuals within Symetra as well as with Symetra's third-party vendor to resolve complex accounting and reporting issues. Partnering with Symetra's reporting teams to ensure financial presentation and disclosure accuracy will also be a priority.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead a part of the company's accounting close and reporting cycles
  • Perform and review ledger and holdings reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy
  • Prepare and review quarterly reporting and analysis, work with GAAP and Statutory reporting teams for appropriate disclosure presentation and language
  • Prepare and review financial analytics, management reports and other deliverables
  • Research and document accounting issues. Prepare/draft and review new or updated accounting analyses and policies
  • Provide technical accounting training regarding accounting rules, company controls, policies, and processes
  • Identify areas for improvement
  • Lead and execute projects with project lead
  • Produce a high-quality product with review comments for improvement. Resolve issues with minimal guidance

Compensation

Salary Range: $75,300- $125,600 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Your education, skills and experience

  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field
  • CPA, CMA a plus
  • Relevant work experience in public accounting, insurance, or finance
  • Ability to work and succeed in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong process improvement skills and the ability to "think outside the box"
  • Highly motivated with a strong desire to exceed expectations, and work in a challenging and fast-paced work environment
  • Desire to work with a team where growth and improvement are encouraged and supported
  • Proven ability to interact effectively and communicate complex investment accounting guidelines and policies in an understandable manner to various levels staff, and external vendors
  • Goal-oriented with a track record of task and project completion.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as the need arises (quarter and year-ends, ad hoc projects)
