Job Summary

Central Washington University is recruiting a hybrid Marketing Manager to join our Advancement Marketing and Communications team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they design, implement, and coordinate marketing efforts for the University. The role is a campus-based/hybrid position, which means you get to see the lives you are impacting. Hybrid details to be discussed at the time of hire as this position will be based out of the Ellensburg, WA campus with periodic campus visits required (i.e. monthly for staff meetings, other campus events, etc.). We're offering a salary, depending on experience, from $57,847 - $70,862 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Role:

The Marketing Manager, University Advancement is a storyteller for and to alumni donors and friends of the university. They will assist in successfully developing creative, modern, complex, timely, and insightful marketing plans and campaigns for alumni and development, within a supportive and creative environment. The Manager will ensure implementation and coordination of all marketing efforts including print, digital and web, video, social, and other media. This position will lead the creation and implementation of dynamic plans to tell the story of how CWU alumni, donors, and others in the Wildcat Family make an impact in our world and how CWU impacts our society to engage new alumni, donors, and friends.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, University Advancement, this position is part of a team whose mission is to increase the engagement of the university's multiple stakeholders through effective communications to promote philanthropic and volunteer and experiential support for CWU and inspire stronger relationships with the university. This position supervises student workers. All employees are expected to support CWU's commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.

Job Duties

Marketing Management
- Manages marketing and communications for CWU alumni, donors, and constituents.
- "Tells the story" of Advancement for both internal and external audiences by leading and assisting each unit in developing creative, forward-thinking, and comprehensive marketing plans and strategies.
- Fulfills the needs of all marketing production and implementation for Advancement (alumni and foundation/development), including branding, re-branding, and co-branding, market research, design/video/photo, writing, public relations, marketing consultation, and program management.
- Plans and implements promotions and campaigns, coordinating with CWU stakeholders, as well as external corporate and other partners.
- Coordinates with CWU University Relations to ensure branding is unified and within established university guidelines.
- Manages production and distribution of press releases, articles, annual reports, award publications, and other materials to tell the story and submit to trade publications and news outlets to support marketing plans.
- Creates and manages the implementation of email campaigns, newsletters, digital marketing, and other regular communication for Advancement and university clients.
- Seeks areas for collaboration across campus to maximize exposure and messaging.
- Drives advertising and communications for alumni and foundation events and programs.

Digital Campaign Management
- Manages department presence and voice through digital platforms, focusing on alumni and donor engagement and appropriate promotion of the university.
- Develops a social media presence that is engaging, educational, and reflects Advancement goals.
- Leads communications coordinator and student staff in social media implementation, tracking, and other activities.
- Plans and ensures updated website information for all units as part of the comprehensive integrated marketing plan.
- Plans, executes, and supports digital ads and campaigns, menu and digital displays, marketing needs for apps, and other digital media and promotions.
- Coordinates with lead graphic designer in updating of all digital and print outlets in which alumni or foundation is represented.

Supervisor Duties
- Supervises and collaborates with student staff and interns as appropriate.
- Develops new employee onboarding plan.
- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
- Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues.
- Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation, and engagement.
- Recognizes employees for good performance.
- Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests.
- Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees.
- Promotes professional development opportunities.
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner.
- Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. Values and encourages diverse perspectives, creativity and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, or related field plus 2 years' experience
  • Proven experience developing and managing cohesive, creative, and complex marketing campaigns
  • Extensive knowledge, experience, and understanding of social media platforms
  • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills
  • Understanding of website development software and strategies
  • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and other software solutions and/or understanding and practice of design principles, software, and applications from concept to post-production, and knowledge and understanding of video production
  • Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences
  • OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, MBA, or related field
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Professional experience working on a marketing team
  • Use and understanding of project management tools and processes
  • Social media management experience
  • Assessment and program review experience
  • Experience in mentoring students and staff from a variety of backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through various activities

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position has a minimum annual salary of $57,847 and maximum annual salary of $83,878. The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $57,847 - $70,862. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch) / Some weekends and weeknights may be required / Hybrid details to be discussed at the time of hire as this position will be based out of the Ellensburg, WA campus with periodic campus visits required (i.e. monthly for staff meetings, other campus events, etc.)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
