THE ROLE

Under general direction, accountable for planning, coordinating, and directing training for assigned functional area. Regularly requires eliciting results directly from groups of trainees of varying size.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Planning, coordinating, and directing training for assigned functional area. Regularly requires eliciting results directly from groups of trainees of varying size.
  • Confers with management and manager to determine training requirements.
  • Formulates training, programs, and schedules for review, based on identified training needs for new or existing processes, programs and procedures. May include but is not limited to: pre-employment driver skills screening, driver orientation, equipment use, and driver proficiency review.
  • Plans, develops and conducts safety and hazardous waste handling training programs for employees, with particular attention to those in positions of higher risk.
  • Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods, i.e. individual or group training; group presentations, demonstrations, or simulation exercises. Chooses alternative procedures, when required.
  • Organizes and develops training manuals, reference library, etc. Assists in testing and evaluation procedures. Develops and maintains broad understanding of appropriate processes, programs and procedures.
  • Plans and conducts training events.
  • Provides verbal advice and written direction when needed, and discipline as applicable.
  • Test trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Recommends employees for participation in internal training programs.
  • May perform off-site safety observations.
  • Documents compliance and enforcement of federal and state agencies such as Department of Transportation and OSHA.
  • Provides broad health, safety and environmental compliance services, as needed in the absence of regular safety and compliance staff (back-up role only).

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

  • Three years related experience and knowledge of safety practices, techniques and procedures.
  • Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area (e.g., DOT laws and regulations).
  • Current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Commercial Drivers' License required.
