AltaGas - Operations Manager, Ferndale Terminal

The Operations Manager Ferndale terminal, will provide leadership and management related to the execution of the strategic plan associated with the Ferndale, WA terminal. The Operations Manager will maintaining a focus on daily production activities, analyze production and quality problems, ensure safety and environmental compliance, develop the leadership skills of the operations/production team, and act as a strong ambassador for AltaGas with our external stakeholders. A focus on organizational effectiveness, risk management and cross functional alignment of various groups is essential.


You Will:

  • Develop and support an operating culture which is accountable, collaborative, and entrepreneurial with a focus on bottom line performance and growth.

  • Develop and support a strong safety culture: 100% reporting culture, development of safety awareness and demonstrate a safety-first mindset.

  • Oversee personnel performance for the leadership team mentoring supervisors and providing consistency across the teams.

  • Performance monitoring and growth of the overall Terminal personnel; continuous direction and mentorship through performance reviews and other development programs.

  • Support, develop and provide recommendations for proactive succession planning. Ensure succession and workforce plans are implemented and sustained.

  • Union CBA management, including working through strategic planning and grievance processes.

  • Foster a working relationship with the Joint Health and Safety Committee to review, approve and follow up on committee concerns.

  • Develop both annual and long-term operating/maintenance plans, budgets, and capital replacement/upgrade projects to attain required availability and reliability. Work collaboratively with Engineering and Projects to properly assess Capital, Risk/Opportunity based projects.

  • Develop annual operating budget, monitor, and control approved budget. Ensure accuracy of outlook, budget adherence and strong understanding of risks to budget, ensuring stewardship throughout the year.

  • Lead risk-based decision-making processes to optimize Terminal performance, including providing for the long-term resiliency and sustainability of the facilities.

  • Present a professional image and manage ongoing positive relationships with the public, key customers, and stakeholders.

  • Responsible and accountable for Process safety and Risk Management processes. Accountability as the Risk Owner.

  • Maintain high levels of communication with the commercial team and customers to ensure their needs are satisfied and to promote future business.

  • Ensure all field staff are consistent in their application of AltaGas policies, procedures, and programs. Support and integrate OMS into Operations. Drive teams to engage, utilize and align with Midstream resources (SME's, Engineering and EHS)

  • Provide technical mentoring to employees on process, Asset Management, and project controls.

  • Participate in key commercial discussions and input on development projects.

  • Work collaboratively with Midstream Health and Safety team to ensure Midstream OMS programs are planned, reviewed, implemented, and adhered to.


You Have:

  • 10+ years in equivalent leadership role and 10+ years gas processing or terminal experience and working knowledge of railyard and marine logistics.

  • Engineering designation and/or technical diploma (P. Tech and/or Power Engineering 3rd class)

  • Incident Command Training and experience required.

  • Proficiency in business administration tasks

  • Proficiency in business systems: (Experience in Maximo, JDE, Power BI and PI historian will be deemed an asset)

Salary range: 160-180k plus bonus
