Job Description
Compass Oncology, the Pacific Northwest’s largest privately-owned cancer treatment and research center is looking for a Chief Medical Physicist in our Radiation Oncology department. This individual will lead an expanding department of physicists and dosimetrists serving our patients in the greater Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA metro area. This role requires a results-oriented individual with strong collaborative and organizational skills, the ability to communicate to achieve goals, and an understanding of the human dynamics for team formation and maintenance.

JOB SCOPE:        

Manages medical physics and dosimetry services at three (3) practice sites in the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA metro area to ensure accomplishment of practice objectives. Develops, implements, and monitors radiation safety programs and initiatives including staff training. Responsible for the design, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans. May participate in clinical, research and educational duties. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages the radiation oncology physics program, including the technical direction of medical physicists and medical dosimetrists including, evaluation and feedback and staff scheduling
  • to produces a responsive, motivated and highly competent team-oriented department.
  • Oversees the clinical and technical direction of radiation oncology medical physics, dosimetry and brachytherapy staff within the practice including review of billing for accuracy, technical and clinical skill development, and procurement of supplies.
  • Provides radiation oncology medical physics services and coverage at all practice sites as needed.
  • Actively engages internal US Oncology and external partners in the development of new programs and processes, assessment of new technologies, and provide recommendations and budgeting direction to practice leadership.
  • Provides recommendations for the specification, selection, and acceptance of radiation-producing machines, accessories, and computerized treatment-planning system.
  • Develops radiation safety and monitoring policies, procedures and training manuals.
  • Implements radiation safety training and personnel radiation monitoring programs throughout the practice.
  • Oversees registration of all ionizing radiation equipment and radioactive material licenses for practices within the state.
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements and comply with both state reporting and other third parties as required
  • Ensures proper maintenance of radiation treatment equipment.
  • Implements physics and radiation quality management programs and the review and approval of procedures followed by radiation therapy staff.
  • Participates in chart rounds to ensure appropriate clinical care of patient as it relates to physics and radiation services.



QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in medical physics from an accredited four-year college or university required; PHD in medical physics is preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in radiation physics, including a minimum three years in a leadership or management role, preferably in a large radiation physics program with multiple sites and brachytherapy services.
  • Current certification in field by American Board of Radiology.
