Both the disease and the treatment can cause pain, dysfunction, and structural changes that - if left untreated - will lead to long lasting injuries and disabilities. In their effort to provide care and support for patients along their Cancer Care journey, Compass Oncology is looking for a Physical Therapist to help deliver a new level of care. Helping our patients regain strength and mobility, reducing musculoskeletal pain, providing lymphatic support, and assisting in medical devices education will be some of the major responsibilities for this role. Previous Oncology experience is highly preferred as this is individual will be integral in the creation and expansion of Physical Therapy services to all our clinical sites.

JOB SCOPE:        

Restores patients function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Meets the patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
  • Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercise, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities and in using assistive and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes and prostheses.
  • Administers physical therapy treatments by giving massages; initiating traction; applying physical agents; utilizing hydrotherapy task and whirlpool baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines; directing treatments given by aides, techs and assistants.
  • Evaluates effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating patients¿ progress; recommending adjustments and modification.
  • Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers; contributing to patient care conferences.
  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge with ongoing and continued education
  • Complies with federal, state and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Education:
  • Masters or Doctorate in Physical Therapy from accredited program
  • At least 2 years experience; preferably a minimum of 6 months in oncology
  • Oncology certification preferred
  • LANA/MLD certification required
  • Active Oregon Physical Therapy License in good standing and certification in Oncology/LANA/MLD/lymphedema treatment required prior to start date. 
  • Must obtain Washington Physical Therapy license in first 3 months.
